I'm really bad at this...
Maybe I'll put a reminder in my Outlook calendar... hehe.

I've been slacking really badly the past few weeks. I was really gung ho for a while, but as usual I lost steam...

For Memorial Day Eric and I went to visit his daughter. I got in plenty of APs running round after and swimming with a 4 yr old Saturday. Oof... where does she get all that energy?!

We were supposed to see her again on Sunday, but for reasons I'd rather not disclose in a public forum we weren't able to so we had to cut our weekend short. Boo...

I made it to the gym once this past week. I was in NH for work, and for some reason I was (and still am) WICKED tired all week. I'm blaming it on TOM (for those non-WPers that means "Time of Month").

I just added this as a daily task in my Outlook calendar so starting Monday it will remind me to post every day...

We'll see how that goes next week though since I'm going to be in Kansas City, MO all week. At least my hotel has a gym. :)

Eric and I will probably go bike riding tomorrow since we haven't been in a while. I'm going to try to get on the treadmill tonight, and get in my strength training. Since I totally slacked off I'm going to repeat week 5 again next week.

I did have a huge weight loss victory over labor day weekend though. I went to NY & Co. and they were having a huge sale so I decided to try some stuff on. There was a pair of pants there that I really liked, but they only had a size 14. I decided to try it on, and they FIT!!! I ended up getting 3 pairs of size 14 pants, and I think that the size 14 of the jeans I got would have fit too, but they didn't have any.

I haven't worn a size 14 since my first sophomore year (for those who don't know, I transferred to a different school after my sophomore year, and ended up going for 5 years total) in college! That was almost 7 years ago!

As something rather unrelated, apparently Eric managed to lose 10 lbs this week! Huh?!

Uh oh...
I haven't posted in over a week... oops.

I guess I'll start with Mother's Day weekend. Eric and I went out to celebrate our 1 year anniversary!! (One year! YAY!!) We went to Carraba's (sp?) for dinner, and I was celebrating so I went a little overboard. I had a chocolate martini, lobster ravioli (SO GOOD!) and we split this layered brownie mousse dessert, also very good. I did manage to make it to the gym before we went out though, and I did a 45 minute Roof-Raising workout. Which consisted of a 5 minute 3.5 mph warm-up followed by jogging at 5 mph until I reached a mile then 3.5 mph break until I got to 1.4 miles, and then I tried to go at 5 mph again but that only lasted about 2 minutes so I dropped it down and walked at 4 mph for about 10 minutes, and then dropped it down to 3.7 mph until I reached 40 minutes, and finally did the treadmill's cool down. I always feel so good when I finish a workout!

Saturday Eric and I went to my parent's house for Mother's Day. I was supposed to hang out with Emily, but I got confused and didn't realize what day I was supposed to hang out with Emily so Eric and I ended up heading out to my grandparent's house for a bit then we went to You-Do-It Electronics (Eric's favorite store). He bought a bunch of stuff that is way beyond my intelligence level. Then we went to the Natick Mall (a little more my style), and walked around there for a couple hours. After that we went back to my parents house and I made dessert for the party the next day and with the left over chocolate and strawberries Eric, my mom and dad, and I had chocolate dipped strawberries... YUM

Okay... this is going to be a general "I had a bad week" post.

I traveled to St. Louis last week for work and I was really bad... I was good the first two days, but my last night since I didn't have to teach the next day I drank a whole bottle of wine with my filet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes, and key lime cheese cake...

I only exercised once while I was there, and I haven't been to the gym since Wednesday... :(

I've already gone for a 30 mintute (1.5 miles) walk today and I'm planning on either going to the gym or going for a bike ride with Eric tonight and then doing Tuesday of week 5.

I'm not going to do food because there's just too much to list...

I am a huge slacker
In terms of posting that is. I get too caught up posting in message boards and playing FreeCell, and I don't have time to post here... hehe.

First, when I weighed in this morning I was down 0.8 lbs! I was psyched, but I'm going to have to kick it up if I'm going to lose 6.8 more pounds by Memorial Day.

Anyway, yesterday was good. I was going to get up early, but I was tired and I didn't. I know, more being a slacker. I was also going to take a walk at lunch time, but I had to go get salad dressing and they were doing construction so it took me like 45 minutes to drive the 2 miles to the grocery store.

The good part about not going in the morning was that Eric went with me to the gym. We did a very sweaty 35 minutes on the ellipicals. There was a fan above us but it wasn't on... blech. Afterwards I went and did Thursday of week 3. I admitted out loud last night that I HATE push-ups. As a matter of fact as I did each one I actually said, "I hate push-ups," but I did them.

I got home and felt like ass though. My head was killing me. I decided I wasn't going to take Excedrin for it because I don't want the caffeine. I had a hard time sleeping and finally gave in and took some aspirin, and that helped, but I didn't get up early again today because I thought my right eye was going to explode!

Eric and I will probably go for a bike ride today. I prefer the treadmill, but it bothers his knees. Boo.

Anyway, this weekend is going to be tough. I'm going home for Mother's Day, and I always eat too much when I'm home. I'm excited though because I'm going to back these delicious looking strawberry shortcake kabobs. I'll let you know how they turn out.

I'm just going to add Thursday's food for now. I'll add Friday's tomorrow.

Snack:
Apple - 1pt

Day 3
I didn't get a chance to post yesterday because my boss was here all day and I had to actually be busy, not just look busy. Good news though. I got an 11% raise and was moved to a higher commission bracket! :D

Anyway, yesterday was ok. I had planned on having a salad for lunch, but since my boss was here they ordered pizza and I wasn't strong enough to resist. I also ended up eating half a donut. It was from Neil's. I couldn't help it... hehe. I did get my activity in. I did Tuesday of week 3 in the Ultimate Plan. I didn't get to go to the gym or bike riding for my cardio, but I did manage to do a cardio DVD and the strength training.

This morning I actually got up at 5am with Eric, and went to the gym. I am tired right now, but I feel good because I know I can relax when I get home. I did the Wednesday of week 3 cardio. Based on my heart rate I'd be great if I was 10 years old. Unfortunately, I'm 25 and my cario heart rate range ends at about 158 not 169. I know this will go down though. That's the point of all this work, right?

I also already want to have my morning snack because I ate breakfast earlier today than I usually do. I'm going to wait until at least 9:30 to make sure I make it to lunch though.

(Edit - added 4:00pm)
So I had my snack at about 10:30. It's amazing I stopped thinking about how I was hungry and then I didn't notice it anymore. The problem is that the snack I had was another donut. This time a whole one! Ugh. Then I had my apple at about 11:30. This working out in the morning thing really makes me hungry ALL DAY!

I want to leave work early, but I also don't want to go home because when I get there I have to put laundry away. I hate laundry. Anyone want to come over and put my laundry away?

We're having kind of a bad dinner tonight, but I don't feel like cooking. My parents gave us a chicken alfredo that they got at Costco. I just have to stick it in the oven and then let it bake. Not very healthy, especially after that donut, but I got in alot of veggies and fruit today, and I have 6 regular points left, 11.5 allowance points (for today and tomorrow), and I earned 3 activity points, so I think I can afford it tonight. :)

Seriously, any takers for the laundry? You can have some alfredo. :)

Alright lets get on with my food. :)

Tuesday Food:

Breakfast:
Maple and brown sugar oatmeal - 3 pts

Snack:
Apple - 1 pt
Half a sugared cake donut - 3 pts

Lunch:
2 meduim sized slices of pizza - 9.5 pts

Dinner:
Taco salad - 9 pts

Total: 25.5 pts

Activity points earned: 5 pts (I used only 1.5 though)

Wednesday Food:

Breakfast:
Regular oatmeal with lite syrup and walnuts - 4 pts

Snack:
Raised sugared donut - 4pts
Apple - 1 pt

Lunch:
Cranberry salad - 6.5 pts

Snack:
Strawberries and fat free cottage cheese - 1.5 pts

Dinner:
Chicken alfredo - 9pts

Total: 27 pts

Activity points earned: 3 pts (3 used)

I'm pretty sure LJ is dead...
but I'm posting anyway.

I need a place to start making myself accountable for my fitness actions.

I posted a while ago that I have been doing Weight Watchers and I had lost 11 lbs... that was September and since them I've lost about 10 more lbs. Since my wedding is 131 days away I need to kick it up a notch.

I'm still doing WW, but after about 3 months of continuous business travel I've managed to gain back about 5 lbs. Also, as of right now my wedding dress is just barely too small. Sure, I can probably get some kind of undergarment that will suck it all in and it will fit fine, but I'd like to do it on my own!

So with that, I've gotten back on track with WW, and I've started following the Women's Health Ultimate Fitness Plan '07 (http://www.womenshealthmag.com/ultimate/). It's a 6 month plan designed based on your current fitness level with specific exercises for each day of the week and a new workout every 2 weeks.

I've already completed weeks 1 & 2 and today is my first day of week 3. Today is actually a rest day, but I may try to get in a bike ride or something like that tonight. Then again I have quite a bit of TV to catch up on so I may actually go with the rest today.

The point of this new direction of my LJ is for me to post everything about my fitness up until (and perhaps after) the wedding. I'll also be posting my food choices, and any changes I notice in my health, weight, and fitness level. :)

Food

Daily Points: 24

Morning:
1 packet Quaker Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal - 3 pts
11ml Coffee Mate French Vanilla creamer - 0.5 pts

Snack:
Gold Fish crackers - 3 pts

Lunch:
1 cup baby spinach - 0 pts
1/8 cup dried cranberries - 1 pt
1/8 cup crumbled feta - 1.5 pts
1/8 cup almonds - 1.5 pts
1 1/2 Tbsp balsamic vinaigrette - 2.5 pts

Snack:
1 cup strawberries - 0 pts
1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese - 1.5 pts

Dinner:
Spicy Crusted Salmon - 6 pts
Roasted garlic couscous - 3 pts
Steamed broccoli and carrots - 1 pts

Dessert:
Edy's Fruit Bar - 2 pts

Total: 26.5 pts

Allowance Used: 1.5 pts

This is going to be a long week...
I can tell by the way today started...

The song that was on my iPod for the alarm this morning was "Last Dance" by Sarah McLachlan which is a nice quite instrumental which didn't wake me up. I didn't end up getting up until about 20 past 7. I didn't have enough time to make breakfast so I had to bring breakfast with me and eat oatmeal out of a cup instead of a bagel like I wanted.

There was traffic in the weirdest places this morning. Not in the normal highway places. In random spots on the back roads for no apparent reason.

I finally made it to work about 10 minutes late, but still before everyone else, and when I started up my computer and tried to read my email my computer crash and gave me the BSOD... not cool. I restarted. It did it again. I restarted. Again. I restarted. Then I remembered I was supposed to be on a conference call. Logged into call. Muted phone because I just have to listen on Monday mornings. Finally decided there must be a problem with Firefox so I'm using IE... old IE not fancy IE7 because our tech support logging website doesn't work with IE7... blah... I want to go home. :(

First Major Wedding Decision Made!
I just called and booked the reception and ceremony site for my wedding!

We now officially have a date and a place!!

It's at the Barns at Wesleyan Hills in Middletown, CT on September 15, 2007!!!

It's a rustic old New England barn set on a beautiful lake with fountains and cute little bridges spanning the islands. I went there yesterday to look at it, and when I walked into the barn I just knew my wedding was going to be there! Then when the coordinator showed me the grounds I could envision the ceremony and where the pictures would be. I actually got goosebumps looking at it.

I was getting worried because everywhere I looked there just seemed to be something that wasn't quite right. I was afraid I'd have to settle with something that wasn't quite right.

Okay, I have to go to a meeting. Here is their website if you're interested:

Update :)
I never update. I know.

First I have my engagement ring!!! I got it probably a month ago, but I still love showing it off. :)

Here it is:

Also, about a week and a half ago Eric and I got a kitten!! She is the most adorable thing I've ever seen! Her name is Hersey. We got her from a friend who found a litter of kitten under her porch. As of last Friday she was very healthy, 1.5 lbs, and crazy. She loves playing with the belt from my new jacket. I don't know what she'll do if I ever wear the jacket. I have trouble taking pictures of her because she won't ever stay still long enough.

Here she is sleeping:

So, since I got engaged I decided to join Weight Watchers to lose some weight before the wedding. So far it's been 8 weeks and as of last Thursday I had lost 11 lbs. I weight in again tonight. I hope I lost more. :) Even without the weight loss I feel great. I'm eating healthier, and exercising more. Overall I just feel better about myself!

Just for the heck of it here is a picture of Eric and me at the Toby Keith concert. He doesn't normally wears hats. He got that one free at one of the booths at the concert.

I can't stop smiling
Well... I have some HUGE news!!

Remember the guy I mentioned in my last post. On Friday he asked me to marry him!!!!

It was very sweet. I almost cried. We were lying in bed at about 2am just talking about any random thing that came to mind, and he started asking me my opinion on marriage and proposals. I said, "a proposal should be special, but not over the top. I think people who have to have some big dramatic proposal, like at a sporting event or on tv or something, are trying too hard and might be trying to compensate for something. I think that it needs to be special for just you and me."

Then he said, "Is right now special?" I said something like, "I don't know."

And he looked over at me, and said, "Katie, you know that I love you so much, and I don't ever want to be with anyone else. Would you do me the honor of being my wife?" Then, of course, I said, "Yes."

I really can't believe it. He is absolutely everything I didn't know I ever wanted. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I threw away my list of things I wanted in a man, and was ready to give up on meeting someone when Eric came along. I am so happy.

p.s. Since it was an unplanned proposal I don't have a ring yet, but we went to my aunt and uncle's jewelry store on Saturday and picked something out. I'll post pictures when I get it. :)

Holy Crap! I'm not dead!!
Hey everyone!

As it turns out I haven't died. It appears the last time I posted was in late March. It's now late July. What has happened between now and then?

Well, I have a new job. I started in early April. I am a Structural Application Engineer. Which basically means I do tech support, product demonstrations, and training for a piece of structural engineering software. I love it. I get to travel all over the place and meet all kinds of new people. I never thought I'd be able to do a job like this, but I can, and I can't believe how much I like it.

I met someone really amazing. His name is Eric. He is from Florida and has the cutest Southern accent. He's really amazing. I can't quite get enough of him. He was in the Army and actually spent a year and a half in Iraq. He also has a 3 year old daughter. She lives in West Virginia with her mother, and I haven't met her yet, but I've seen pictures and movies and heard her talk on the phone and she seems incredibly sweet. I really can't wait to meet her and I know it's killing him that he hasn't seen her since he moved to Connecticut(His ex-wife is kind of a bitch).

I just got back from fours day in Indiana with my mom. We have family friends who live on a farm out there so we got to ride horses and ATVs, and go camping on their lakeside property. I had such an amazing time. I really can't wait to go back. Hopefully, we'll be able to bring more of the family next time. I wish Eric could have been there.

The car is still working great. I still love it!!!

My birthday is coming up. I'm going to be the big 2-5. A quarter of a century. I hope my car insurance goes down. :) Maybe I'll have a party. If you're special you'll get invited. :P Then again, if you're special you might not get invited because I might not have one. :)

Okay, I have to go and get ready for my demo in New Haven. I hope everyone was glad to hear from me. Maybe I'll start updating more often, but I might not. hehe.

My old job had an espresso machine. It was really easy to use. Put a pod in, press a button, presto! espresso!

I realized the other day that my new job probably isn't going to have such a convenient device, but now I'm used to my espresso every morning. So, I bought an espresso machine on Saturday.

I made my first cappuccino today. It's okay. A little watery, but I think for my first time using a real espresso machine I did pretty good. It looks like a real cappuccino! It has foam and everything.

I figure I have a week to figure out how to efficiently make a decent cup that I can drink every morning. We'll see how it goes!
